There are many Halo fans awaiting the announcement of a new release. Presenting One Xbox announced a series of live-action produced by Steven Spielberg, but surely we have to wait for E3 for a new release for consoles.
However, by surprise Microsoft has announced a third person shooter for Windows Phone and Windows 8. The new Halo, titled Spartan Assault is not a FPS or a strategy game, but a shooting game in the third person with control of two sticks. “In short, it is a change from top to bottom in the arcade style action game. It’s actually a whole new way to play Halo”, explained executive producer of 343 Industries, Dan Ayoub in press release to the media. Halo: Spartan Assault is the first game in the franchise designed exclusively for mobile and tablet or PC with Windows 8.
Consist of 25 short missions and combine the shots, grenades, melee some movements and use of vehicles. Located halfway between Halo 3 and Halo 4, Halo: Spartan Assault chronicles the first Spartan Ops missions and immersed in the history of the Human-Covenant war.
Users can play through the eyes of the Commander Sarah Palmer and Spartan David in the UNSC Infinity, while they are facing battles never before seen against the Covenant forces. According to Ayoub, the game has been designed to make the most technical of the mobile operating system from Microsoft.
Moreover, although this was more focused on these mobile devices, is compatible with any computer that comes with Windows 8, therefore, the touch controls are not going to be the only option. From 343 Industries have wanted the game on mobile or ‘tablet’ is the real reflection as possible to what the players were accustomed to Halo traditional.
Connecting to Halo 4
One of the shortcomings is that it offers the multiplayer option when enjoying the central part of the game. “There are components in multiplayer challenges and leaderboards, so you can challenge your friends and get that level of interaction, but for this story and this particular game is only one player”, explained one of the leaders of 323 Industries, Kevin Grace.
Also there will be disconnect between what the player does in this new title Halo 4 for Windows and console devices. Halo: Spartan Assault will gain experience points (XP), new achievements and emblems for Halo 4 Spartan, and additional built-in functions will be available after launch. In addition to all this, 343 Industries has been working with Dark Horse Comics to create Halo: initiation, a three-part comic telling the story of how the Commander Sarah Palmer came to be part of the Spartan-IV and transmit the reader “the excitement” of the missions in Halo: Spartan Assault, promises to Microsoft.
